Poole's Cavern - Peak District, England

Explore the vast limestone caverns & see how crystal stalactites have lined the chambers over millions of years. Stroll along beautiful woodland sculpture trails to a panoramic Peak District hilltop viewpoint.

Poole’s Cavern has attracted curious visitors to its unique subterranean wonders, in the High Peak spa town of Buxton, for thousands of years. Our Stone Age ancestors sheltered here, Romans presented offerings to gods and goddesses, and medieval outlaws sought refuge from justice. 17th century explorers named the cavern the seventh ‘Wonder of the Peak’.

Take a journey beneath the earth with our knowledgeable guides, explore the vast limestone caverns and see how crystal Stalactites and Stalagmites have lined the chambers over millions of years.

Back above ground, explore BCA’s beautiful country park, with woodland walks and sculpture trails. At the summit of Grin Low hill, you will fine Solomon’s Temple viewpoint, with panoramic views of the Peak District. For a more extreme experience try the woodland high-wire adventure course at Go Ape!

After your adventure, relax at Café at the Cavern, with homemade cakes, cookies, scones, soups, light bites, local coffee and artisan teas served all day; made with fresh local produce.

Take a piece of Buxton home with you from our charming shop at Poole’s Cavern. Offering a handpicked selection of locally made products, unique souvenirs, and thoughtful gifts, our shop is a celebration of the Peak District’s artisanship and natural beauty.
